In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, now more than ever, the Houston Food Bank is relying on the help of the community to help care for our neighbors in need. There has been an outpouring of donations of money, time and food, and not just from Houstonians but from people around the state, the country and the world!
With more food to distribute (as much as three times more than in non-disaster time), more helping hands are needed to sort, inspect and box food. In the first 22 days following the storm alone, some 14,372 volunteers came to the food bank and worked 48,940 hours! That is equivalent to 282 full-time staff positions for one month.) Among those were a few names you might recognize: comedian KEVEN HART, singer/actress DEMI LOVATO, THE HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS, BOY BAND WHY DON’T WE, KENDALL LAMM and GREG MANCZ (and Toro!) of the Houston Texans, CHRIS PAUL of the Houston Rockets and ANDREW WENGER and DYLAN REMICK of the Houston Dynamo.
Countless generous individuals and companies have made monetary donations, as have many celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow, Aziz Ansari, Taylor Swift, Katie Couric, Nick Jonas, Metallica, Regina Spektor, Hilary Duff, Olympic medalist Simone Biles, former Houston Astro Craig Biggio and John Legend, among others.
Houston Food Bank says, “THANK YOU!”
