Manready Mercantile owner Travis Weaver is a small-town guy, originally from Zephyr, Texas. Manready is a small business built on values, honesty and hard work. “That’s just how we do things. You combine these traits together and you can‘t help but to get quality service and products. The goal is to create jobs, help other makers and support USA-made goods,” he says. This month’s guest editor shares his favorites below.
When it comes to food, I love to eat. I’m a big Texas boy after all. I mix it up with COLTIVARE, SOUTHERN GOODS, PINKERTON’S BBQ and STAR FISH. They’re all locally owned and run and that’s what I want in a business. I don’t go to any of the mainstream joints as there’s simply no comparison when it comes to service and attention. I work hard for my money and my time and when I go out, I wanna make it count.
I pretty much only listen to country music, mainly the older stuff like GEORGE JONES AND JOHNNY CASH. It all relaxes me and brings me to a simpler time and place. Plus it’s good beer drinkin’ music.
WORKHORSE PRINTMAKERS is one of the coolest and most creative companies in town and will crush it when it comes to making the most amazing cards and stationery in Houston. They use vintage printing presses and are masters of design.
I’m on a huge workout kick right now and have been hitting up REVOKE CROSSFIT here in the Heights. I can go anytime on the hour and leave all the business stuff behind while I get my butt kicked.
I love feel-good items. Maybe that’s why I make so many. To me, this means candles, bath salts, bubble baths and high-quality pillows and sheets. Ultimately, they make you feel good and nothing is better after a hard day at work than coming home to ultimate comfort. Lighting a candle to wind down in the evening is the very least you can do for yourself.
One of my favorite pastimes is going to AUGUST ANTIQUES and seeing what Ben James Weaver have dug up and brought into Houston. They have one of the best eyes in town and always bring in terrific goods from the northeast … and that’s where all the really old stuff comes from!
I have a Sunday ritual of getting my car cleaned at KEEP IT CLEAN CARWASH. While I wait, I love to attempt to get caught up on emails. It’s ironically peaceful for me as I have time to myself.
