On July 17 and July 31, early bird skateboarders are in for a treat: The Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark will be open from 7 – 9AM – the first time that Houston Parks and Recreation will provide this opportunity for young-at-heart/working skaters.
Named for billionaire lawyer (Pennzoil!) Joe Jamail and his wife Lee, it’s located at 103 Sabine St. in the shadow of downtown Houston. This year marks the skatepark’s 10th anniversary; the $2.7 million project spans more than 40,000sf, making it one of the largest in Texas. It has two cradles, as well as a kidney pool, a large bowl with a 12.5ft deep end and a street/flow area.
This is an opportunity for our older skater community to escape our oppressive heat. It should be a lot of fun and a chance to capture an adult skater playing like a kid with the sunrise over our skyline. Check out a video here.
