We all know happy hour is always a good idea; however, the Cantonese restaurant, Yauatcha, located in the Galleria, is doing it so right by serving tasty dim sum and oh so chic cocktails!
Let me start out by explaining the creative meaning of the menu that will just get you fired up. Inspired by two of China’s luckiest numbers, six sounds like 流 (liú) meaning ‘flow’, and eight the luckiest number in Chinese culture as it is a homophone for發 (fa), meaning prosper. Yauatcha’s creativity has chosen the flow and prosper meaning to price the drinks and dishes for all of the happy hour menu. Yes, you got that right, cocktails are really $8 and their amazing bites are $6. Now if you ask me, anything that says FLOW and PROSPER in numbers, drinks or dim sum I will be there!
Under Flow, six popular cocktails are listed. My favorite one was the Nashi Momo served in a tall glass garnished with seasonal pears. If you want something chic to fit in with the beautifully polished room, try the Lychee Martini or the Cucumber Refresher. Exploring the Tex–Mex culture, Yauatcha serves their very own Spicy Paloma, and their recipe definitely hits the spot!
Prosper is the side of the menu that will get your belly excited. Eight savory dim sum are served gorgeously in small steamer baskets, each elegantly crafted. The Phoenix’ tail shrimp shui mai is big and crispy – you’ll have no choice but to use your hands to eat this bad boy. If Fall is your favorite season, you must try the Roasted duck pumpkin puff, remove the garnish and pour soy sauce for a photo of a tiny dim sum pumpkin! The three-style mushroom cheung fun was my absolute favorite since it is a vegan option: although it was my first time trying a cheun fun. my palate fell in love with the texture and fun flavors.
Yauatcha takes pride in their Har Gau, their signature dim sum due to the hard work that is put in each of them and its savory taste. Pop that in your mouth and let the flavors of the dumpling do its job.
If you find yourself ready for a drink after browsing the Galleria, skip the steakhouse and Cheesecake, walk over to the very elegant Yauatcha, sit at the bar, patio, or inside their luxurious dining room, relax, unwind, flow and prosper.
