WHAT: Art on the Avenue
WHERE: Winter Street Studios
Art on the Avenue was the two-night fundraiser supporting local artists and Avenue at Winter Street Studios. On November 1 and November 3, the event featured 500+ original works from 250+ local artists with honorary chairs, Bill Baldwin and Fady Armanious.
The preview party hosts were Chris Silkwood and Kelly Simmons and juried gallery selections were Chris Silkwood (honorable mention), Barbara Tennant (honorable mention), the late Virgil Grotfeldt (second prize), Ellen McClellan (first prize)
With Shepard Ross as the culinary curator, curated bites included International Smoke, Jonathan’s The Rub, Poitín, B&B Butchers, Cacao & Cardamom Chocolatiers, Che Figata Gelato and two concepts from the highly anticipated Bravery Chef Hall – Atlas Diner and BOH Pasta. The featured signature cocktail was the Kadinsky’s Biomorphic Abstract Mule featuring Tito’s Handmade Vodka.
The Art on Avenue was a huge success as it raised approximately $250,000. Mayer Sylvester Turner states, “We are the ‘Energy Capital of the World, true. We have the largest medical center in the world, true. But we also certainly have the talent to be known as the ‘Art Capital of the World,’ right here in Houston.”
