Chances are, if you’ve danced your butt off at a recent gala, wedding, bar mitzvah or party with a female DJ – it was DJ London. She’s a jack of all entertainment trades. “I’m a professional dancer, singer, pianist and powerhouse entertainment agent for show business entertainment,” she declares.
DJ London, aka Sian Taylor, who hails from – you guessed it – London, earned her entertainment chops working in numerous hotels, performing in piano bars overseas in places like the Ritz in London, the Cunard QE2 and a bevy of spots in Dubai, UAE, Germany, France, Switzerland, Norway and Spain. She’s called Houston home for the last 27 years and her positive and just darn happy outlook is probably a reason she’s been so successful.
She’s a boundless source of entertainment and can cover a kids party, relating easily with kids and tweens, while still holding her own at the city’s glitziest gala. I asked her a few questions about the biz.
What’s the song you most often get asked for?
I’m sure it changes for type of event, so let’s say:
Most requested song at a wedding?
Greek, Latin, Brazilian, Russian, Indian, British Weddings – as high energy as you can get, non-stop dance all night.
Other weddings – Motown Classics, Michael Jackson, 80s and, of course, “Single Ladies“ by Beyoncé.
At a kids party?
Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift.
At a tween/mitzvah party?
Under no circumstances play Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift – they want the nastiest rap songs that you could imagine.
At a teen party:
Make-out music…just kidding. Yeah – Usher, Flo-rida, any booty- shaking music.
“Don’t Stop Believing.“
How many events do you average a month?
In my heavy season, it can be up to 20–25, maybe more.
Sian books for Show Business Entertainment, an entertainment agency that was started by Dave Vandiver 45 years ago. Most recently, her role there allowed her to raise over $50,000 for the local artistic community affected by Hurricane Harvey with assistance from MusicCares, The Actors Fund, I Heart Radio and other entities.
